Sustainable Tourism

Carbon Neutral Wine Tours & Low-Impact Travel

Like every aspect of modern life, travel produces carbon emissions and impacts the climate. Our winemakers and farmers can attest first-hand to climate change’s effect on their land and its harvest. We design our itineraries to minimize environmental impact while maximizing your contribution to local businesses and individuals. To mitigate carbon emissions, our tours prioritize the use of train travel and electric vehicles wherever possible. All Oenotated Travel tours include certified carbon offsets and support environmental conservation and socioeconomic development initiatives through the Sustainable Travel International Climate Impact Portfolio.

We partner with winemakers and food artisans practicing organic or biodynamic agriculture, and hotels and restaurants committed to energy-efficiency, water conversation, and serving seasonal, locally sourced food. In every destination, we partner with specialized local providers to ensure your travel dollars stay in local economies, helping family businesses and individuals preserve their culture and traditions. Sustainable tourism is especially important in rural areas where population loss threatens local people’s ability to transfer their traditional know-how to the next generation.

Hello

Meet the Team

Adrian Hall

Founder & Managing Director

Adrian Hall

Founder & Managing Director

Adrian’s passion for travel started in childhood. For an American kid growing up in the Midwest, the first time seeing old European castles and cathedrals felt like a kind of time travel. Many years and travels later, experiencing new places still makes Adrian feel like a kid. Since beginning his career as a niche tour operator more than a decade ago, Adrian has been fortunate to travel extensively and build relationships in many of the world’s great wine regions. What he has learned to appreciate most about wine is the story it tells about the place it comes from. Beyond the pleasure wine brings us—its aromas, tastes, colors, how it enhances food, how it makes us feel—wine is romantic. Like few things can, good wine bottles the essence of the world’s most beautiful places.

Darlene Pereda

Marketing Manager

Darlene has been an avid traveler since an early age, when her family spent summers in Mexico. Some of her fondest travel memories are from her time living and working in Istanbul, and from her many trips to Italy, Spain, and France. Her favorite city in the world is Paris, and she has a particular obsession with French pharmacies. Darlene loves the way that travel helps her make new friends across cultures and is always ready to toast new beginnings with a bottle of Champagne!

Mark Phillips

Writer in Residence

Mark Phillips

Writer in Residence

For his eighteenth birthday, Mark wanted to have lunch at the Taillevent in Paris. His love of wine and fine dining has been growing ever since. An options trader by day, he manages client portfolios and writes about markets at Harvested Financial. His expertise is in Old World wines, particularly France and Italy. Mark has lived in France on three separate occasions, and whether he’s researching a day trip to Burgundy or four nights in the Northern Rhône, Mark’s extensive travels throughout the country’s wine regions bring first-hand knowledge to his travelogues and appellation guides. Mark currently lives in Connecticut with his wife and daughter, where he is perpetually building his cellar and always willing to open a bottle of claret.

The Sen

Chief Hufficer

The Sen

Chief Hufficer

When not flopped over on his back sleeping, The Sen keeps the Oenotated team in line by huffing at them when it’s time to eat, time to go for a walk, or time to be entertained by his hilarious antics. His zen attitude and peaceful nature are a valuable reminder of how much joy we can find when we stop and smell the roses.

Lindy

Treat Coordinator

Lindy

Treat Coordinator

Sweet Lindy pup reminds the Oenotated team that you don’t have to be big, to have heart. Her biggest fear used to be (and still is) empty plastic bags lurking suspiciously on the sidewalk. But after developing a life-threating auto-immune disease called MUE, Lindy has shown everyone what a brave girl she was all along, fighting her way back into remission. She frequently requests treats in acknowledgement of what a good girl she is.
